Forbes magazine once again ranks Augustana College among the nation's best colleges and universities—also the best in South Dakota.
Forbes ranked 650 of the top U.S. undergraduate colleges and universities based on quality of teaching, career prospects, graduation rates and low student indebtedness. Augustana College was ranked No. 187 in the nation, No. 151 among private colleges nationwide and No. 34 in the Midwest. Augustana took the No. 212 slot in 2011.
Forbes worked with the Center for College Affordability and Productivity to weigh the factors in student surveys. According to the surveys, 87.3 percent agreed that their courses were intellectually challenging and 89.6 percent agreed their instructors were enthusiastic.
Another factor is 97 percent of 2011 Augustana graduates seeking employment accepted a position related to their major or chosen field within nine months of graduation. That graduating class also had a successful graduation rate, with 73 percent of the class completing their education in four years.
Augustana also ranked better than South Dakota's two largest universities. South Dakota State University was ranked No. 564, while the University of South Dakota was took No. 434.
