PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The Pierre City Commission has decided to keep the local golf course closed for the rest of the year.
The Hillsview course was shut down by flooding last year, and this summer's heat has made its recovery more difficult. The course's turf is still patchy and there are a lot of weeds.
The course's advisory board concluded earlier that the course isn't ready to play, and on Tuesday the Pierre City Commission voted to keep it closed for the rest of the season.
The advisory board's chairman says high school golf teams can still use Hillsview for practice, and the driving range, clubhouse and practice areas are open. The course will also be used for a cross-country track event.
