YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - It's taking the city of Yankton longer than expected to hire a new city manager.
Former city manager Doug Russell left in mid-June, and the city has hired a consultant to help find Russell's successor. They'll be paying the company a maximum of $19,500.
Yankton Mayor Nancy Wenande says the consultant interviewed the commission and community leaders about what they'd like to see in a new city manager.
Wenande says that profile hasn't been finished yet.
The consultant hoped to have a new city manager in place by mid-October. Wenande says it shouldn't be a problem if the process takes longer.
