With less than two weeks until their season opener, the USF Cougars football team hosted their annual media day this afternoon.
The big story line coming in, the Cou's first full-fledged season in DII as they become a member of the Northern Sun Conference.
After a rough start to their transition.. Coach Jed Stugart's squad won five of their final six games last season. However, they are underdogs going into 2012, picked to finish 8th overall.
Confidence is going to be key for the 16 returning letter-winners if they are to rise above it.
"I would be very disappointed if we ended up looking back as a team and have people say maybe you guys were not ready," Stugart said. "I expect to be ready. I think that much of our kids and I think that much of our program. I expect us to be competitive and be in contention."
"It's really just hit the ground running into this conference," senior quarterback Taylor Perkins said. "We want to make this transition period as smooth as possible. We know that week in and week out we're going to have great competition to go up against. Our teams want to see how we can respond to it every week. If I know this team right, I know we'll do a great job in doing that."
