WILLMAR, Minn. (AP) - A head-on collision near Willmar has claimed the lives of three people: an 8-year-old girl, her mother and grandmother.
The State Patrol says the accident happened Friday about 9 p.m. on Highway 12.
Authorities say an SUV driven by a 21-year-old Norwood man crossed the center line and collided with a minivan. The minivan was carrying the two women, the 8-year-old and her 5-year-old brother.
The grandmother and mother died at the scene. A Minneapolis Star Tribune report says the boy remains hospitalized at Hennepin County Medical Center.
None of the victims' names has been released.
The State Patrol says alcohol was detected on the 21-year-old man and in his vehicle. He was treated at a hospital and then arrested on tentative charges of criminal vehicular homicide.
