Families getting school supplies without breaking the bank

Posted: Updated:

A new school year means a new grade level for students... and their parents, a new set of school supplies. As kids get older, and there's more of them, it's not always easy to keep up.

We found dozens of parents, kids and families picking up last minute supplies at a Sioux Falls Target. Most of them, pretty impressed with the back to school deals the store had to offer.

Parents say the deals made it easier for their kids to get what they want.

One shopper, though, is a mom and a teacher. This time of year, she says it's especially important to save as much as possible. She spreads her shopping out through the summer going paycheck to paycheck to seek out the best supplies for all of her kids.

"I look for quality. I try to do a little bit of cherry picking, which store has the best offer for what you're getting," April Rusche said.

"We've got backpacks that we got a year or two ago. We keep whatever we can going and get the new stuff when we need it," Louis Winter said.

Target employees say they re-stock shelves just about every morning, this time of year, to keep up with the demand for simple things like Kleenex, paper and folders - something every student needs for back to school.
