DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) - Workers are almost done shoring up the outside of a century-old Deadwood building that was in danger of collapse last year.
Officials deemed the area around the Pineview building unsafe in the spring of 2011 and closed sidewalks in the immediate vicinity. The building has been vacant for more than two decades, but a development group is working to turn it into a hotel with space for other businesses.
Deadwood Historic Preservation Officer Kevin Kuchenbecker said there is still a lot of work left to be done on the $4.1 million renovation project, including interior stabilization. But he says his office is pleased that the exterior of the 1902 property is nearly stabilized.
