School is getting underway in schools across South Dakota and with a new school year comes some back-to-school jitters. Steffanie Liston-Holtrop stopped by the KSFY Morning News to share some tips to keep the kids calm and ready for a fun year.
#1 Make sure you are focusing on the fun the kids will have at school.
#2 Help the kids before school starts by reconnecting them with some of their classmates.
#3 Help your child feel comfortable at school by going for walks around the building during the summer and playing on the school's playground.
#4 Have your child connect with their new teacher. Have them write a note to the teacher and help them see their teacher as an ally.
#5 Refresh their memory of school rules and expectations.
#6 Always plan for success
#7 Make sure your child is getting into the habit of consistent sleep schedules before school starts.
Follow these tips for a happy and successful year!
And if you are looking for a fun back-to-school craft to do with your student try out these loose-leaf paper T-Shirts.
You will need:
A white T-shirt
A Red Sharpie Marker
A Blue Sharpie Marker
A Ruler
Cardboard
1. Pre-wash and dry your shirt
2. Lay-out the shirt flat and place the cardboard between the front and the back
3. Start making blue lines across the shirt using the ruler as a guide. Start from the sleeve and go until you reach the bottom.
4. Then use the red sharpie to make a vertical line from the collar to the bottom seam.
5. Then if you want you can write fun messages on the shirt or just leave it plain.
