Two Sioux Falls City Councilors are pumping the brakes on a possible vote for the controversial texting ban.
Councilor Michelle Erpenbach tells KSFY News she and Councilor Kenny Anderson Jr. are asking the item to be deferred due to scheduling conflicts with Councilor Sue Aguilar—who is the major proponent of the bill.
Erpenbach said they will announce they are asking for the deferment during the 4 p.m. Informational meeting Tuesday. The City Council was expected to hear a second reading and possibly vote on the issue at Tuesday's 7 p.m. meeting.
"We really want her to be there to see this important legislation become reality," Erpenbach tells KSFY News in an e-mail.
Erpenbach said in the e-mail she does not know if they will receive enough votes to defer the item. A majority vote from the councilors present at the meeting is all that needed to defer the measure.
