PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in South Dakota has been named a circuit judge.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced Tuesday that Mark Salter of Sioux Falls will be the new judge in South Dakota's Second Judicial Circuit.
Salter replaces William J. Srstka, who is retiring.
The Second Circuit includes Minnehaha and Lincoln counties.
In a news release, Daugaard said Salter has a strong record in private practice and in the public sector.
Salter has worked at the U.S. Attorney's Office since 2004. He has been the chief of the office's appellate division since 2009. Before that, he worked at a private practice in civil and business law. Salter also is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Salter says he is honored to accept the appointment.
