Mom and three kids injured in crash near Hartford

Posted: Updated:

Four people are seriously injured after a Minnehaha County crash involving a semi truck and a car.

Sergeant Steve Swenson with South Dakota Highway Patrol tells KSFY the semi was traveling westbound on 254th Street between Hartford and Colton when it t-boned a southbound car.  Swenson says the truck driver was unfamiliar with the area, and blinded by the setting sun, missed a stop sign.

In the car was a mother with three young children.  The youngest child was airlifted with critical, life-threatening injuries, to a Sioux Falls hospital.  The mother and other two kids were taken by ambulance to a hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of truck was not injured.  Highway Patrol does not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.  Charges against the truck driver are pending.

KSFY expects to have more information Wednesday morning.
