Pomegranate Market: keeping it local

Posted: Updated:

The plain green conference is just over three weeks away. The event is aimed at getting every one of us to think about the future of our planet.

In the weeks leading up to the conference, KSFY is highlighting projects and businesses around the community demonstrating a commitment to sustainability.

This week, the focus is on Pomegranate Market, located at 57th & Louise on Sioux Falls' west side.

Supplement Department Manager Kristen Perschon explains the Pomegranate Market's philosophy: "We believe that being healthy means eating well, living a clean lifestyle, having a positive happy mood and being really fit. It goes beyond the physical symptoms of being well to the spiritual aspects of living a happy healthy lifestyle."

Pomegranate Market's commitment to sourcing local products includes its dairy department, meat counter, and produce section - where a major focus is placed on stocking seasonal fruits and vegetables.

The staff is also trained to help customers find products to fit specific physical needs, including those with food allergies and sensitivities to commercial beauty goods.

Irish Twins is a Beresford-based line of perfume, dye, and synthetic-free soaps carried at the market.

"It's a glycerine and coconut oil soap that's completely biodegradable. The coconut oil becomes therapeutic when used on the skin," said Perschon.

Irish Twins is just one of the 70 vendors supplying more than 400 local products to Pomegranate Market.

The Plain Green Conference is Friday, September 14. For more information about the event, including speakers and seminars, follow the link provided.
