Sioux Falls airport to close for the weekend

Posted: Updated:

The Sioux Falls Regional Airport will be closed again this weekend for runway construction.

The construction project replaces the concrete runway section lying at the intersection of runways 3-21 and 15-33. According to the Sioux Falls Regional Airport's website, that section of runway is more than 30 years old and is in need of replacement.

According to the airport's website, the remaining sections of runway are not long enough for commercial airlines while this area is closed. As a result, commercial airline service is canceled during the project.

The airport will be closed from Friday, August 24 at 2 p.m. until Monday, August 27 at 8 p.m.

The cost of the project is more than $7.7 million and is primarily funded by the FAA's Airport Improvement Program.
