Posted: Updated:

Dozens of people got together to tour chicken coops within the city of Sioux Falls.

The group is toured 6 back yards.

The city's urban agricultural task force wants people to grow their own food within city limits.

They're looking at revising their animal ordinances.

The task force holds monthly meetings and looks at ordinances set by other cities.

Members are trying to figure out what's best for Sioux Falls.

This group wants people to educate themselves on the benefits of having chickens. but they say it should be done responsibly.

"I think it's important if your going to raise chickens to do it in a responsible way so that your neighbors are happy with it. I encourage people to talk to their neighbors and check in with them before hand," Wyatt Urlacher said.

This group is with Homegrown Sioux Falls but they're getting a new name.

They're now called Dakota Rural Action which is a non profit organization based in South Dakota

They are now part of a local chapter.
