Sioux Falls Police arrested eight men Thursday in a reverse prostitution sting. Their ages range from 26 to 63.
Police placed two fictitious ads on an Internet site advertising women available under escort services. Officers worked in cooperation with a local hotel and received numerous responses to the ads. Several encounters were arranged and the would be customers made propositions to purchase sex for money.
A total of eight subjects were arrested and charged with Hiring for Sexual Activity, a Class 1 misdemeanor. Three of the subjects were charged with 2 counts as they tried to purchase sex with two females at once.
The subjects arrested were:
Michael Stang, 61, St. Joseph, MN (2 counts)
Samuel Wilson, 38, Sioux Falls (2 counts)
Glen Hurst, 56, Sioux Falls (2 counts)
Nicholas Bergman, 26, Sioux Falls
Jasper Williams, 37, Centerville, SD
Charles Wathier, 45, Sioux Falls
Roy Knudson, 63, Sioux Falls
Efren Soltero-Romero, 29, Sioux Falls
Police say because of the high response to the ads, they will likely conduct similar stings in the future. "I would advise anyone considering soliciting sex for money to think twice," Sioux Falls Police Chief Doug Barthel said. "Your next encounter could be with an undercover police officer."
