PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota state government building is being renamed in honor of 2 economic development leaders who died in a place crash along with then-Gov. George Mickelson 19 years ago.
The Capital Lake Plaza in Pierre is being renamed the Dolly-Reed Plaza. Roland Dolly and Ron Reed both served as commissioners of the Governor's Office of Economic Development. At the time of the April 19,1993, crash, Reed was commissioner of the Officer of Energy Policy.
The plaza building houses the Economic Development office, along with the state Tourism and state Lottery agencies. A renaming ceremony is set for Sept. 28. The widows of both men are scheduled to attend.
A total of 8 people died in the crash in Iowa.
