Flandreau police warn of door-to-door scam

Posted: Updated:

The Flandreau Police Department is warning people about a door to door peddler trying to steal from homes.

Flandreau police say the lady is driving a white car peddling kids' books door to door. According to police, she is trying to enter homes and is very persistent.

Reporting parties say if you tell the woman you are not interested, she asks to go to the bathroom or for a cold drink. Victims say once the woman is inside the home she cases the place.

According to Flandreau police, the reporting party was aware of the scam through Huron friends so they did not let the suspect in the home. Both reporting parties from Huron and Flandreau said the young woman was very persistent in gaining access into the home.

The suspect is described as a white female in her mid-20s with dark, long hair and a European accent. She is driving a late model white Chevrolet with a loud muffler and no rear license plate.

Police say people engaged in this type of activity move from town to town in hopes to evade police. Police say you should not hesitate to call police if you encounter this type of situation.
