Roosevelt sophomore quarterback Taryn Christion threw for a touchdown and ran for another, as the Rough Riders topped the O'Gorman Knights, 19-7 in Dakota Bowl XXXIV.
One of the better defensive battles in recent memory, the two schools combined for just three touchdowns and two field goals.
The Knights opened the scoring in the first quarter when senior quarterback Blake Hilmoe hit classmate Austin Pharis for a short touchdown strike to make it 7-0. However, O'Gorman would lose sophomore flanker Tanner Schulte on the drive for the rest of the game and his absence was clearly felt.
From that point on Roosevelt would go to work. Kim Nelson's squad responded with nine unanswered points in the second to take a 9-7 lead into halftime. After each time punted to open the third quarter, Christion connected with senior wide receiver Lucas Wilber on a 31-yard touchdown strike to put Steve Kueter's team away.
O'Gorman had won 25 of their last 30 meetings between the two schools. Click here for highlights of tonight's contest.
