The Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team was ranked in a tie for third in this week's edition of the American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) Top 25 Coaches' Poll. SMSU (3-0) was victorious in all of its matches this past weekend at the Concorida-St. Paul tournament.
Concordia-St. Paul (3-0) is ranked first with all 32 first-place votes. Nebraska-Kearney (3-0) came in second with 730 votes. SMSU (3-0) and Tampa (2-1) both received 713 points and were ranked third. Central Missouri (3-1) rounded out the Top 5 with 668 points.
Other NSIC schools to be ranked in the AVCA Top 25 were Minnesota Duluth (6th), Wayne State (12th), and Minnesota State (13).
Southwest Minnesota State has now been ranked in the AVCA Top 25 for 81 consecutive weeks, dating back to Sept. 5, 2006.
No. 3 Southwest Minnesota State will take on Southern Indiana in the first game of the Missouri S&T tournament in Rolla, Mo. this Friday, Sept. 7 at 12 p.m.
