Very few people will ever be national champions at anything. A six-year-old from Sioux Falls is already able to claim that distinction.
This past weekend, Ella Holman swam, biked, and ran her way to a gold medal in her age division at the Hy-Vee National Triathlon.
Ella's mother, Kari Holman tells us she knew Ella had it in her to be a champion.
"It was really hard. We weren't sure how she was going to handle triathlon - with them being so long - but she was a trooper. She dug hard and pushed it, when running is the hardest part, because that's the very end of the race," said Kari.
Getting into championship shape took a lot of work, but Kari tells us that the family trains together all the time: running, biking and swimming in their home pool.
"It's something Ella never complained about doing. She always wanted to get out and run as hard as she could and swim hard in the pool," said Kari.
This is Ella's first year competing in triathlons. She has two older siblings, ages eight and ten, who compete as well.
