SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A giraffe has been born at the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls and the baby calf already is taller than some zookeepers.
The zoo's 13-year-old giraffe Libby gave birth to a male calf on Sunday. The calf is about 6 feet tall and weighs almost 150 pounds.
The birth of the unnamed calf was Libby's fourth.
Zoo officials say giraffes give birth standing up, and the calves drop more than five feet to the ground. The long-necked creatures can stand up and walk in about an hour.
