Jury trial set in fatal hit-and-run crash in Sioux Falls

A jury trial is set for a Sioux Falls man accused of killing a woman on a motorcycle in a drinking and driving crash July 28.

Darren Boomgarden, 41, is charged with Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Battery, DWI 2^nd and Felony Hit and Run. On Wednesday, Boomgarden pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The incident happened just before midnight at the intersection of 26^th Street and Grange Avenue on July 28. Police say Boomgarden struck the motorcycle Sean Burns, 41, of Hartford was driving— Tracy Handel, 36, of Sioux Falls was a passenger on the motorcycle.

Police say Boomgarden did not stop driving after the crash and he was found a short while later.

Handel died at a Sioux Falls hospital shortly after the accident. Burns was hospitalized.

A jury trial for Boomgarden has been set for November 13.
