At least 500 people walked to raise awareness for Down syndrome.

It was the 12th year for this Buddy Walk.

The 1 mile walk was held in Sertoma Park in Sioux Falls.

Some people have been taking part in this walk for years while others say it's their first time.

No matter how long you've been part of this, many say it's important.

"There's so many things that are related with having a child with Down syndrome that I was totally unaware of. All the medical issues that come up and to raise money to help families is just fabulous," Sue Page said.

Last year the event raised over $25,000.
