100 year fire station celebration continues

Posted: Updated:

The celebration of a Sioux Falls Fire Station continued on Saturday.

The Central Fire Station in downtown Sioux Falls has been in active service for 100 years, and citizens have been invited to tour and explore the station.

The station has displays of old fire helmets and photos of the station through the years. Old, restored fire vehicles can be seen as well.

Tourists were able to climb in the fire trucks, try on firefighter gear, and spray a firefighter's water hose.

The station has just installed a new floor to hold the heaviest of its fire trucks.

The arts festival downtown helped bring in extra visitors to the station, including a family from Yankton.

"Bringing my daughter around to learn about the fire station and it looks like there is a scavenger hunt and hanging out with the family today," Krysta Prior said.

The celebration continues all week and wraps up next Saturday with another open house and a blood drive.
