Sioux Falls man caught while gathering "ditch weed"

Posted: Updated:

A Sioux Falls man was arrested after being caught collecting ditch weed on the side of the road.

At 11 am Friday, an officer was in the area of North Six Mile Road and East Maple Street. The officer was driving north and noticed a Mitsubishi Endeavor pulled over on the west side of the road with the driver's door open.

The officer said he noticed a man on the side of the road grabbing branches and stems from wild marijuana plants growing in the ditch. The officer said the man was putting a lot of it in the back of the SUV.

The officer made a u-turn and stopped the driver before he could get into the car. The officer said 411 grams of marijuana, or .9 pounds, were found in the SUV and a loaded gun was found on the vehicle's dashboard.

Austin Bohlke, 22, of Sioux Falls was arrested for Possession of Marijuana—half a pound to less than one pound, which is a felony. Bohlke was also charged with committing a felony with a firearm.
