AAA: Gas prices up, expect declines as summer & hurricane seasons end

The average price for a gallon of gasoline in South Dakota is about eight cents more than it was a year ago.

On Tuesday, the average price for a gallon of gas was $3.827—two cents more than a week ago and 18 cents more than a month ago.

The highest gasoline in the state is $4.129 per gallon in McClaughlin, which is in the north-central part of the state. The price of gasoline recorded was $3.599 per gallon in the southeast South Dakota town of Viborg.

Despite the increase in price, AAA still expects the price of gasoline to decline as demand drops off following the busy summer season, as refineries switch to the less expensive winter-blend gasoline, and as hurricane season draws to a close.
