The City of Huron's Public Safety board has tabled discussion of a ban on texting while driving.
Huron Police Chief Gary Will says the discussion was tabled so the safety board could research crash data and how other cities and states implemented and enforced the ban.
Huron Public Safety Commission Mark Robish says it is just an initial discussion. Robish was not at Tuesday's meeting, but he says the public safety board is just in the talking stages of the ban.
"Right now we're looking into if there is a problem and how much of a problem there is," Robish said.
Robish says the discussion does not necessarily follow in the wake of Sioux Falls' texting while driving ordinance. Robish tells KSFY News the discussion comes from a national push to ban texting while driving.
