Business owner recalls horrific shooting scene

Posted: Updated:

It was a scene that, fortunately, doesn't come around too often in Sioux Falls. That's why, for so many, what happened Tuesday afternoon is still so hard to believe.

"It was as shock. People move to Sioux Falls because they think it won't happen here. It can happen outside your door any day," Alan Grey said.

Grey owns The Rush just next door to Cost Cutters. He heard two sounds early Tuesday afternoon. He tells KSFY he thought little of both of them, until later.

"I looked outside and saw the victim's car, which I recognized because I see her everyday. Went over to see what happened and they said 'you probably don't want to go look, it's a gruesome sight,'" Grey said.

And it was. 24 year-old Amanda Connors, who was the manager at Cost Cutters, was shot and killed. Blocks surrounding the strip mall were at a stand-still for hours. Dozens were standing, watching, waiting as the officers and SWAT Team did their jobs.

Many others, especially those who knew Amanda Connors, just want to know why.

"It's a shame, she had nothing to do with it. She gets killed over something she had nothing to do with. It's shocking, you don't know what to say," Grey said. "When someone told us about the gal in the car, I see her everyday when we come to work. She was the manager, it's terrible something like that could happen."

Businesses including The Rush and others around Plaza 41 will be back to business as usual, Wednesday.

The investigation into the scene at Cost Cutters is still on-going as authorities work to find more answers.
