Huron is considering placing a ban on texting and driving. Sioux Falls passed an ordinance a couple weeks ago to ban texting in driving in Sioux Falls at the end of September.
Huron is waiting to see how Sioux Falls' ordinance will play out and will make some adjustments are their own.
According to the National Safety Council 1.6 million accidents occur annually due to cell phone use while driving.
Huron Chief of Police Gary Will offers this advice if you considering texting while driving, "People die everyday on the highway and the only way to protect yourself as well as other drivers is to pull over to the side," Will said. "it only takes a few moments and you are back on the road."
