MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - A new report issued by South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant says a miscount in the Davison County's primary election results was not caused by the ballot scanner.
That means human error caused the miscount, which left the county's election results in doubt for several days.
Davison County Auditor Susan Kiepke acknowledged to The Daily Republic that human error caused the miscount. But she says she still believes the machine had a glitch.
An analysis of the scanner's audit log determined ballots from Precinct 8 were led through the machine twice.
A recount established that winners in all races remained the same, though some of the numbers changed significantly.
