Daugaard proclaims Wednesday as "No Texting While Driving Day"

Posted: Updated:

Governor Dennis Daugaard is telling drivers across the state to set aside their phones Wednesday.

Gov. Daugaard proclaimed September 19 as "No Texting While Driving Day." On Wednesday digital highway signs across South Dakota will read, "Texting and Driving: It Can Wait."

According to AT&T, Gov. Daugaard, the South Dakota Safety Council and the State Highway Patrol have joined the national campaign "It Can Wait."

AT&T plans to spend tens of millions of dollars on the campaign in 2012 and has made it an ongoing commitment in future years. AT&T's efforts in South Dakota have included a $5,000 grant to the South Dakota Safety Council to educate teens about the choices they're making when they text and drive.
