Hoven School District approves $200,000 opt-out

Posted: Updated:

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Residents of the Hoven School District have voted to opt out of the state property tax freeze.

District Business Manager Amy Arbach said voters approved a $200,000 opt out for seven years by a 396-227 unofficial margin on Tuesday.

The district has opted out for the past seven years at an amount each year of up to $168,000. That comes to an end next month.

Arbach says the new opt out will replace the expiring opt out and will go into effect on Nov. 1.

The school board plans to canvas the election results Wednesday night with a special board meeting.
