A father and son from Huron are facing charges after an investigation alleging they sexually assaulted two girls at an in-home daycare.
Beadle County State's Attorney Michael Moore said Fred Sylaart and his son Jordan Sylaart, 18, were indicted by a grand jury September 14.
The two were indicted on charges stemming from the sexual assault report in July, but Moore said the alleged incidents happened several months before the report. Fred is charged with two counts of sexual contact with a child. Jordan is charged with two counts of first-degree rape.
State's Attorney Michael Moore said the incidents in question involve two girls who were attending Fred's wife's in-home daycare. The two girls were both younger than 12 years old.
Moore said the wife voluntarily shutdown her daycare as soon as the alleged incident was reported.
Fred was a janitor for Beadle County at the courthouse. Moore said when the incident was disclosed in July, Fred was put on administrative leave. On Thursday, the Beadle County Commission met and Fred was suspended without pay beginning Sept 14 through October 19th. On October 20 Fred's position will officially be terminated.
