WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man is nearing the end of a 1,700-mile walk from his hometown of Woonsocket to a town with the same name in South Dakota.
The Woonsocket Call reports that Bill Fagan is expected to wrap up his trek on October 6. He's been walking the route on and off for nearly four years.
Fagan likes going on long walks and has traveled many times by foot to Mendon, Massachusetts, which is about nine miles from Woonsocket.
Fagan wanted to go a longer journey and first though about walking cross country or along the Appalachian Trail. But he chose the trip to Woonsocket, South Dakota, which has fewer than 700 people, because he wanted the route to be unique.
