RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota School of Mines and Technology President Robert Wharton is being honored Monday during an afternoon memorial tribute service.
Wharton died Wednesday of complications from earlier cancer treatments. He was 60 years old.
Wharton had been the school's president since July 2008. Provost Duane Hrncir has been named acting president.
The outdoor service is planned for 2 p.m. MDT on the quadrangle at the center of campus.
Monday afternoon classes have been canceled.
