Brokaws selected as Dakota Days parade marshals at USD

Tom and Meredith Brokaw have been selected as Parade Marshals at the 98th Dakota Days Parade at the University of South Dakota.

Tom Brokaw is a Yankton native who graduated from USD in 1964. Meredith Brokaw, also a Yankton native, graduated from USD in 1962. In 2010, the Brokaws established the Tom and Meredith Brokaw Scholarships in Honor of America's Greatest Generation with the USD Foundation.

Tom is regarded as one of the most trusted and respected figures in broadcast journalism—most well known as the host of "NBC Nightly News." Brokaw is currently a special correspondent for NBC News reporting and producing long-form documentaries while providing commentary during election coverage and breaking news. Tom has also authored several books including "The Greatest Generation" and "A Long Way from Home."

Meredith Brokaw is the founder of Penny Whistle Toys in New York City where she also served as operator until 1999. She wrote eight Penny Whistle books for children and in 2006 she co-wrote the cookbook "Big Sky Cooking." Meredith has also served as a director of the Gannet Company for 18 years. She was also vice-chair of Conservation International for 16 years and currently serves on the board of Maloto, Inc.

The parade is happening Saturday October 6 at 10 a.m.
