The Groton Fire Department will take over the Bath station after a unanimous vote by Day and Brown County commissioners.
South Dakota law requires that station must have 15 active volunteers to be functioning and the Bath department had only nine.
All of the volunteers with the Bath station will continue to serve from the same building in Brown County, but the name will be changed to Groton Fire Station No. 2.
The station in Bath will function as a satellite station for Groton and both buildings will respond to fires in Bath as well as fires in Groton.
The building and equipment in Bath has plans to be renovated and upgraded.
