Sioux Falls' downtown State Theatre will be completed in June 2013 and given a brand new name: The Sylvia R. Henkin State Theatre.
The announcement came, Thursday morning, in the lobby of the theatre that it is all thanks to a donation of $500,000 from the Henkin and McGowan families. The money came as a lead gift matched by donations from friends and supporters to total $500,000.
In her address to the guests, Sylvia Henkin, 91, called the theatre ''the last gem in the crown of Sioux Falls''.
Henkin is commonly known as a true icon in Sioux Falls from countless events, making several contributions and receiving several awards within the community.
The project's leaders, members of Downtown Sioux Falls and former Senator George McGovern were a few of the dozens in attendance at Thursday's announcement.
The State Theatre still needs $500,000 to complete the project by its goal grand re-opening in June 2013.
We'll have more from the announcement tonight on KSFY News.
