Komen's Race For The Cure gets ready for its Sioux Falls debut

Posted: Updated:

The Susan G Komen Race For The Cure is being held Sunday in Sioux Falls.

More than 2,700 people have already signed up and many people here are picking up their packets for the big race.

There are also almost 140 teams running or walking this race.

It costs about $30 to join.

If you're a breast cancer survivor you'll get a pink shirt, if you're just participating you'll get a white shirt.

We met one runner who decided to take part because she's supporting co-workers, friends and family members who have dealt with breast cancer in some way.

This is her first Komen race.

"I've supported other races in this community and I do what I can to help out," Renae Pick said.

To get this race going tomorrow it takes months and months to prepare and plan.

Crews are setting up for the race which starts at Falls Park tomorrow morning at 9.

Volunteers started transforming Falls Park since yesterday when they started putting tents up.

They're expecting thousands of people.

This is the first year the Race For The Cure has been held in Sioux Falls.

"We've been blessed to have it in Vermillion the last 4 years and it's nice it was in the dome so regardless of weather we knew we were always good inside but we needed to stay true to our mission and move to a larger population base so we can raise more funds," Amanda Anderson said.

Organizer Amanda Anderson mentions more money means they can help more breast cancer patients right here in our community.
