PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Gov. Dennis Daugaard says October is Archives Month in South Dakota as part of an effort to draw attention to preservation efforts that protect the state's documentary history.
The South Dakota State Historical Society is hosting several Sunday events this month as part of the celebration. They include a celebration of stained glass windows on Oct. 14, a Riverside Cemetery tour on Oct. 21 and an Oct. 28 viewing of film footage of President John F. Kennedy's 1962 trip to Pierre for the dedication of the Oahe Dam.
Daugaard says archives have an important role in preserving the state's history. He says the month is a chance for archival repositories across the state to spread the word about their collections.
