Lincoln, Lead-Deadwood Have Lead State Boys Golf Tourneys

The 2012 South Dakota Boys Class AA State Golf Tournament opened up Monday morning at the Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

Close to 100 of the state's best golfers on the green to compete for top honors during the two-day event.

Through the first round, two Lincoln Patriots lead the individual standings with Tommy Vinning and Parker Klitzke carding scores of 72 and 73, respectively. Not far behind, five players are tied with a 74, including O'Gorman's Max Donohue and Yankton's Jace Guthmiller.

The race is also close atop the team leaderboard where Lincoln paces all teams with a 299. O'Gorman stands in second with a total score of 302, while Yankton is in third with a 308.

The Class A State Tournament also teed off at Spearfish Canyon Golf Course.  Lead-Deadwood's Gabe Derksen carded a first round 69 to take the clubhouse lead.  His Golddiggers team also has a comfortable team lead over second place Harrisburg.

The final round is tomorrow.
