Empire Mall in Sioux Falls to undertake major renovation

Posted: Updated:

The Empire Mall in Sioux Falls has announced it will undergo a construction for a transformation to be completed by November 2013.

Simon Property Group, Inc. announced the extensive renovation will start in February 2013. The construction includes new interior and exterior features such as additional seating, updated restrooms, redesigned mall entrances, landscaping, flooring, ceilings and lighting.

The interior renovations include a complete redevelopment of center court area, new flooring installed throughout the entire mall and replacement of outdated metal ceilings.

New soft seating areas will also be added throughout the Empire Mall.  The Café Court will also be redesigned with new landscaping, lighting, furniture and banquette seating. The outside of the court will also be redesigned for outdoor seating.

A completely new children's Play Area will added as well.

Exterior renovations include a redesign of the main entrance featuring a two-story glass facade with an extended glass awning for comfortable customer drop-off and pick-up and improved traffic flow.

"The Sioux Falls community will greatly benefit through Simon Property Group's restoration of a local landmark like The Empire Mall," said Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether. "This substantial investment solidifies Simon's commitment to the city's ongoing economic development, and we're excited to see the changes unfold."
