The causeway connecting Pierre to LaFramboise Island is expected to reopen this Saturday.
The causeway had been under construction for five months after the Missouri River flood last summer left the infrastructure damaged.
The project has coasted more than $2.8 million dollars.
Many people in the area, including Mayor Laurie Gill are excited to have access to the island again.
"This is a big moment," Gill said. "To have this reopen shows just how much this city can overcome. Feels good to be getting back to normal after the flood."
Nearly 10 miles of hiking and biking trails are on the island. 5.3 of those miles are expected to be ready for use come Saturday.
