ROSEBUD, S.D. (AP) - Two Rosebud residents have been sentenced in federal court for stealing from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.
KGFX reports that 32-year-old Nathan Janis and 39-year-old Barbara Duysak were accused of submitting false payment request forms to the tribe's child care services program. Authorities say Duysak worked as an administrator for the program during the time the money was embezzled, between October 2009 and December 2010.
Both Duysak and Janis pleaded guilty in July.
Duysak has been sentenced to two months in custody, six months of home confinement and about $42,433 in restitution. Janis has been sentenced to six months in jail, six months at a halfway house and about $33,816 in restitution.
