South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says the state's registered sex offender compliancy is almost perfect.
Wednesday Attorney General Marty Jackley announced the compliancy rate for registered sex offenders is 98.7 percent across the state. According to the Attorney General's Office, 3,027 sex offenders live in South Dakota and there were only 40 identified instances of non-compliance.
"Keeping the public and children safe is the ultimate goal of the South Dakota's sex offender registry," Jackley said in a news release. "This remarkably low non-complaint rate is the result of the attentive work of law enforcement and these individuals should be commended."
State law requires convicted sex offenders to register within three business days of coming into any county to reside. Additional state law requires sex offenders to register every six months.
