Pavilion Spotlight: Take The Day

Posted: Updated:

Once a year, painter Stacey Evangelista works with other artists and in front of a large crowd.

"From 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. the artists are going to create one work of art or several works of art that will then be auctioned off that's free and open to the public," said Washington Pavilion VAC Director, David Merhib.

Take the Day at the Washington Pavilion is in its third year.

"It's a great opportunity for families and for any art lovers to watch this process take shape," said Merhib.

It's also the perfect time to ask questions about the artists' creative process.

Evangelista says questions include, "What colors are you using? What are you mixing them with to get this color?"

It isn't often artists from different mediums get to watch each other work. Turns out, they're curious too.

"That's part of the fun. To go check out and see what everybody is doing and where they're at. If they're anywhere close to being done. Maybe they need to slow down and talk or maybe quite talking and paint a little more," said Evangelista.

At the end of Take the Day, the artists work will be auctioned off.

"50 percent of the sold work of art goes right back to the artist," said Merhib. "The other 50 percent goes toward the VAC to keep the doors open free and open to the public."
