SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - The developer of a Hard Rock-themed casino has gotten support from the nonprofit Missouri River Historical Development board to build a casino and entertainment center near the Missouri River in Sioux City.
The board voted Wednesday to back a $100 million proposal from Warner Gaming. The Las Vegas-based outfit has developed a chain of Hard Rock casinos, hotels and restaurants.
Warner and the board must obtain a license from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
The land-based casino would replace the docked riverboat casino, Argosy Sioux City.
Penn National Gaming Co. owns the riverboat casino. Last month it filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against the development board. Penn also is seeking a court order to prevent the nonprofit group from joining another casino operator in seeking a license from Iowa regulators.
