River Cities Transportation unveils expanded facility

Posted: Updated:

River Cities Public Transportation unveiled the expansion of their facility in Pierre on Wednesday.

Through federal funds, $3.9 million dollars was put towards the expansion to upgrade a dispatchers office and construct a new bus garage.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood was a guest speaker at the unveiling and says the people of South Dakota deserve quality transportation.

"It is critical for rural Americans, for South Dakotans to have the kind of rural transportation that is provided by the city." LaHood mentioned.

River Cities functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The new facility will allow the company to make more than 300,000 trips a year as opposed to less than 20,00 trips ten years ago.
