Westbound traffic on Russell Street in Sioux Falls will be closed next week for sewage construction outside the future home of the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
The city is installing larger sewage pipes that will be capable of supporting the new center, but for the next two weeks, that construction project will interrupt traffic.
Starting Sunday, October 14, through Friday, October 19, all westbound traffic between West Avenue and Western Avenue will have to take a detour on the service road on the north side of Russell Street.
Public Works is encouraging everyone to avoid the area if possible.
"Some alternative routes for the public to consider would be 12th street or Madison Street or even 60th street North in order to pass the construction work on Russell street," said Public Works Engineer Robbie Veurink.
Keep those routes in mind for the following week as well. Eastbound traffic on the same section of Russell Street will be close Sunday October 21-Friday October 26. The Eastbound detour will take you south on Western Avenue, east on Madison Street and back north on West Avenue to Russell Street.
During each week of closures, the opposite lanes of traffic will be open as usual.
All lanes of traffic will be open on Saturday, October 20th for the USD vs. NDSU game at Howard Wood Field.
