Family believes foul play was involved in Sisseton fire death

Posted: Updated:

Mike Hill died from actions that resulted from a fire in Sisseton in early October.
Authorities told the Hill family the fire started from a cigarette, but the family thinks otherwise.

"They aren't telling us the truth," One family member said. "Something else was the cause of that fire."

Many members of the family believe a violent action started the fire.  They claim they have witnesses who saw people caring gas cans in the area Mike was living.

The Hill's are most upset with the distant responses the police and fire department are giving them.

"They ignore our calls," Nolita Hill said. "We call and call, but get nothing."

The police tape has been taken down in the area but the memories of Mike remain and many questions left unanswered.

"We just want the truth and justice," Jackie Beetem, Hill's niece said. "Violence will continue to happen if the authorities don't release the truth.

KSFY News contacted Sheriff Jay Tasa through phone calls and in person and he said that he did not have time to respond with answers to KSFY.
